NVIDIA is the most popular GPU brand within the South Korean DIY market while AMD & Intel are fighting for CPU market share within the country, reports Danawa Research.

South Korean DIY Retailer, Danawa, Shares PC Market Statistics For 1H 2023: NVIDIA Leads In GPU, AMD & Intel Split Almost Equally In The CPU Segment
Over the last couple of years, we have seen AMD Ryzen CPUs eating up Intel's DIY market share but the recent influx of budgeted offerings within the 12th and 13th Gen family has turned the blue team into the value brand whereas AMD aims at the more high-end and premium marketplace.

Starting off first with the CPU market share, Intel leads with a 57% market share but AMD isn't far behind with a 43% market share. It looks like Intel is trying to retain its 50%+ market share while AMD is gunning for half of the market share with its Ryzen offerings. An interesting thing seen in the results is that the vast majority of the Intel userbase is running the more budget-friendly 13th and 12th Gen Core i5 CPUs whereas the Core i7 series is the second most popular segment. Intel Core i9 series has its audience too but ends up with a single-digit market share whereas the Core i3 CPUs have yet to obtain a double-digit market share too.

Most Popular Intel CPUs (1H 2023):

13th Gen Core i5 - 36.09%
12th Gen Core i5 - 24.39%
13th Gen Core i7 - 18.13%
Most Popular Intel Platform (1H 2023):

B660 - 34.21%
B760 - 27.70%
H610 - 21.66%

The reason why the Core i3 CPUs aren't seen as an ideal chip could be due to their quad-core design which looks very last-gen and the majority of games nowadays require a good multi-threaded chip with at least 6 cores or 8 threads. That might change with the 14th Gen lineup though we cannot say for sure until the final specs are confirmed.

DDR4 DRAM Share (1H 2023) - 72%
DDR5 DRAM Share (1H 2023) - 23%
DDR4 DRAM Share (June 2023) - 62%
DDR5 DRAM Share (June 2023) - 37%
As for the chipsets. once again, the B660, B760, and the H610 chipsets end up being more popular than the Z790, & Z690 options mainly due to far more affordable price points. The benefit of the entry-level options is that they are also available in DDR4 flavors which look more enticing from a value proposition versus the DDR5 boards where you not only have to pay extra for the boards but also for the DRAM itself too. The good thing is that DDR5 prices are coming down and June results show that 37% of DIY users went for DDR5 memory compared to 23% throughout its life cycle so far.
