[Sport] Carlos Alcaraz beat Medvedev and advances to the final against Djokovic

Carlos Alcaraz

Carlos Alcaraz has made history this Friday, July 14. At just 20 years and 72 days, he has become the fourth youngest player to qualify for the Wimbledon final behind Boris Becker, Björn Borg and Rafael Nadal.

Similarly, he is only the third Spaniard to achieve it after Manolo Santana (1966) and Rafael Nadal (2006-2008 and 2010-11).

Alcaraz knew that he had to level up against Daniil Medvedev regarding the quarterfinals with Holger Rune. And that is precisely what he did to close a score of 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3, in 1 hour and 50 minutes. After warming up with his brother Álvaro, the Murcian came out plugged in, playing the ball cleaner than ever.

Statistics don't lie and he had made just five unforced errors in the opening set. Medvedev played perfect in all but one game: the eighth. He made a mistake in serving with a drop shot and then his rival penalized him with an accurate backhand return.

Carlitos faced the first 'break' ball against him in the second game of the continuation and saved it as if nothing had happened. It is what the chosen ones have and what makes them different from the rest.

Juan Carlos Ferrero's pupil was very clear about tactics and went through aiming at the opponent's backhand. Medvedev once again asked for mercy to save his serve with 1-1 and 15-40. He couldn't neutralize the third. The break had been identical to the first set with a winning backhand return.

The figures of the El Palmar player on the green carpet are already beginning to scare: 15 games won and only two lost. The match was beginning to recall the monologue from the last Indian Wells final.
