Intel has finally brought in patches for its next-gen Xe2 "Battlemage" GPUs in open-source Linux Mesa drivers.

Intel Releases Initial Patches For Future Xe2 "Battlemage" GPUs On Linux
Intel has been stepping down the throttle to make rapid improvements within software resources present on Linux, and today's development is no exception. The Xe2 GPU architecture, codenamed Battlemage, will be featured in dedicated GPUs along with Intel's Lunar Lake CPUs as well. The recent Mesa patches depict the Battlemage series with the "Gen20" codename which is internally used and a follow-up to the Gen 12.5 Alchemist architecture.

The new patches mark a path for Intel to follow, hence we could see "specific" developments and driver updates related to Xe2 "Battlemage" CPUs in the upcoming patches as well. It is exciting to see Intel working on its future architecture this early in terms of software support as we've already come to know that the bulk of the design and development team moved over to the hardware side once they were finished with Alchemist. This will reveal "tidbits" about the Battlemage lineup, which holds immense importance for Intel's GPU division as well as the industry.

Team Blue has recently been active in Linux, especially providing driver updates and improvements that bring major performance uplifts. New optimizations have brought in a 15% performance boost in several titles, placing Arc GPUs in a competitive position.

Moreover, Intel's Lunar Lake CPUs have also received support at Linux 6.6, including the lineup's dedicated VPUs; since the platform is turning out to be a viable option for Intel consumers, especially in recent times. Recent reports have also pointed out that the company already has the BMG-G10 GPUs in its labs so we might get a teaser soon!

Intel's Xe2 (Battlemage) GPUs are set to debut next year, and we could get glimpses of it in the upcoming Innovation 2023 event as well; stay tuned since the future holds greatness!
