Google is working on a new feature for Gboard that will allow users to scan text and copy it into an editing document or another application without having to type it again; a feature already existing in Google Lens.Specifically, the company has begun to implement a button with the indication 'Scan text', which is located next to the 'Translate' and 'Review' options on the keyboard, as 9to5Google has warned in the latest Gboard APK .

 

To use this new functionality, however, the portal clarifies that the corresponding permission must be granted so that Gboard can access the camera.

 

Once it has been enabled, the main interface of the application - on this website they say, for example, the Notes 'app' - will be divided into two halves, with the lower one acting as a scanner to direct the camera towards the text entry that you want to scan.After scanning that writing, it will be displayed at the bottom of the Gboard interface and, if you want to copy it to a document or another application, you must click on the 'Insert' button, according to the screenshots you have shared, which show a similar operation to the 'Text' function of Lens.

 

From 9to5Google they have clarified that this feature can be enabled with the latest beta version (13.6) of Gboard for devices with Android operating system and that it has not yet been implemented to all users.
