Apple has ruled over the single-core dominion for several generations with every annual chipset release, and though the competition has managed to bridge the gap extensively in the multi-core department, the company’s strong grasp on efficiency is also something to behold. With the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 and Dimensity 9500 rumored to support ARM’s Scalable Matrix Extension when they are officially launched later this year, a tipster mentions that both SoCs could match Apple’s M4 when comparing single-core scores.

New rumor adds that both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 and Dimensity 9500 will be mass produced on TSMC’s 3nm ‘N3P’ architecture, keeping pace with Apple by obtaining an estimated 4,000 points in Geekbench 6 single-core

We previously discussed last year that with Apple’s M4 supporting the ARMv9 architecture, it also supports the Scalable Matrix Extension, which is an instruction set that allows the chipset to tackle more complex workloads more efficiently, explaining why it obtains such a high single-core and multi-core score in Geekbench 6. Qualcomm and MediaTek might have missed an opportunity with the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400 launches, but according to Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, there will be a visible change when the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 and Dimensity 9500 arrive.
