AMD & Intel will be releasing their next-gen enthusiast laptop CPUs, including the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D "Fire Range" and Arrow Lake-HX options at CES.

AMD to Bring X3D V-Cache to "Fire Range" Ryzen CPUs Such As The Ryzen 9 9955HX3D, While Intel's Arrow Lake-HX CPUs are Reportedly Bringing no Significant Benefits Over Predecessors

More reports are emerging regarding the AMD Fire Range, which will be the Ryzen 9000HX series, based on the Zen 5 architecture. It will differ from the Strix Point, Krackan Point, and Strix Halo, targeting the high-performance premium laptop segment.

We previously saw the supposed Ryzen 9 9955HX on Geekbench in an AI test. Even though the naming convention isn't confirmed, and we didn't see the SKU name as such, it's likely going to follow the naming convention of the Dragon Range, i.e., Ryzen 7000HX. Today, one more leak surfaced on Weibo, where the prominent leaker Golden Pig Upgrade reports that the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D is supposedly confirmed for launch.

The page is now removed but thanks to @9950pro, who took a screenshot on time. Golden Pig also stated that the Arrow Lake-HX SKUs such as Intel Core Ultra 7 255HX and Core Ultra 9 275HX won't be featuring any noticeable uplifts over their predecessors. This doesn't seem surprising since Intel's desktop Arrow Lake CPUs were even slower than the Raptor Lake & Refresh CPUs in gaming. However, they were at least faster in productivity than their predecessors.

It's not clear whether the report is talking about productivity or gaming performance. However, AMD will have a huge upper hand if it releases the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D CPU, which will be the first mobile chip to have an additional L3 cache. Not only will this be the flagship SKU in the Fire Range lineup for unparalleled productivity performance, but it will also be the fastest in gaming as well when paired with discrete GPUs.

While the specs aren't revealed, it's expected that the 9955HX3D will bring 16 cores and 32 threads. Since the predecessor Ryzen 9 7950HX boasts 64 MB of total L3 cache, the 9955HX3D should bring 64 MB extra on one CCD, which will add up to a total of 128 MB of L3 cache. AMD is seemingly focusing on bringing the 3D V-Cache technology wherever it can. From mainstream desktop to data center EPYC chips, AMD is eager to expand its X3D chips lineup to the mainstream mobile segment now.
