The AMD Radeon RX 9000 GPUs based on the RDNA 4 architecture didn't get the spotlight at CES & the red team later stated that the decision to exclude the GPU announcement was due to the fact that they had a large portion of products to cover for a short duration given to them to present the various chips and families. AMD did state that they were focused on offering more information at a dedicated event which was scheduled very soon.

The red team did, however, present the media with a slight preview of what the RDNA 4 architecture and the respective Radeon RX 9000 GPU lineup would look like. We got to see the new architectural highlights, the new product positioning/branding, and a range of custom models. It looks like AMD's AIBs were anticipating more action surrounding the RDNA 4 launch, but according to the latest from AMD, it looks like that action is coming later this quarter.

AMD's David McAfee has now confirmed that the Radeon RX 9000 cards will be available for sale in March. He also mentions that both the hardware and the software are looking great. Following is the post on a social platform,

AMD's slides mentioned Q1 2025 as the launch timeframe for its RDNA 4-based Radeon RX 9000 GPUs, so it looks like they are indeed going to meet that target. Earlier rumors had stated a late January launch for the Radeon RX 9070 XT and Radeon RX 9070. While AMD never confirmed the late January launch, it looks like AIBs and retailers were indeed expecting or provided details regarding an earlier launch which changed very recently.

There are still plenty of retailers who are listing 23rd-25th January availability or pre-order dates for these cards, though based on AMD's confirmation, that won't be the case. Even some reviewers who received the cards early on received similar information.

So the question is what happened? Well, it looks like AMD may have gone back and made some changes to the product positioning of their cards, like offering better supply or making the price points more competitive against NVIDIA's recently revealed RTX 50 series. Current rumors suggest that the Radeon RX 9070 XT will be around the RTX 4070 Ti or RTX 4080 in terms of performance, so they would likely end up around RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti levels if not more. But the competition will have their cards out in February, which would mean that AMD would have to wait at least a month more for their cards to hit shelves. AMD has also debunked several performance leaks, hinting at higher performance.
