President Marcos has ordered the restoration of the original funding for the Philippine National Police's (PNP) information technology (IT) program and the removal of additional intelligence funds allocated in the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). This decision comes after President Marcos deemed the 2025 GAA "suboptimal" and directed government agencies to review their budgets. The President specifically noted that the PNP's IT program had been significantly underfunded, with crucial projects like the enhancement of the National Police clearance system, the Safe Camp Security System, and the PNP drug-related data integration system facing significant budget cuts. The President's directive to restore the PNP's IT program budget to its original amount and eliminate the additional P500 million allocated to the intelligence fund will free up funds for other critical programs. These funds will be reallocated to support the integration and enhancement of the 911 emergency hotline system, which the DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla has identified as his priority program. The 911 system will feature language-specific operators, body cameras for police officers and first responders, geo-locating devices for police cars, and the ability to send hyperlinks to live video for real-time viewing. The President's decision to readjust the budget reflects his commitment to ensuring that government funds are allocated effectively and efficiently, prioritizing programs and projects that are critical to the administration's socioeconomic program. This move follows the President's earlier decision to restore the Department of Tourism's branding budget, highlighting his commitment to supporting key sectors and ensuring that the government's resources are utilized strategically.
