Today, Tuesday, the fifth annual strategic dialogue between the United States and Qatar will begin in Doha, headed by Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The Qatari foreign minister said - in a press conference with his American counterpart - that the Qatari-American strategic dialogue is an important platform in the relations between the two countries, and added, "We discussed developments in the Iranian nuclear agreement, issues of Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and the Palestinian cause."

The Qatari minister thanked the United States for its efforts to support Qatar in hosting the World Cup and holding the tournament.

For his part, the US Secretary said that the current stage is the peak of the US-Qatari relations, adding that we are participating in the region and beyond to resolve differences, end conflicts and deepen economic relations.

The US State Department had said that Blinken would address, in his talks with Qatari officials, a number of issues, including global health, humanitarian aid, international development and security cooperation, in addition to trade and investment.

The US Secretary of State had arrived in Doha yesterday, Monday, where he watched the opening match of the US national team in the World Cup.

Blinken praised Qatar's efforts in organizing the World Cup, stressing that he was excited to see how sport builds bridges of culture.

Qatar News Agency said that the strategic dialogue, in its fifth edition, deals with 12 major issues. They are regional stability, defense cooperation, public health, combating terrorism, combating human trafficking, human rights, climate change, energy efficiency, humanitarian aid, strategic investment, economic cooperation, and cultural and educational exchanges.

It is also scheduled to announce a number of partnerships and sign a number of memorandums of understanding.

Majid Al-Ansari, Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, said - in a statement to Qatar News Agency - that the two sides recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them and the classification of the State of Qatar as a major ally of the United States outside NATO, and the close cooperation between the two countries is evidence. On the common will to push relations to broader horizons.
