The figures of the Central Statistics Administration in Lebanon indicate unprecedented rises in consumption prices, including all areas of spending, which prompted the price index to skyrocket, amounting to 264 percent annually, and an exceptional rise in the monthly rate of rise, which reached 33.33 in March. percent.

These figures confirm that Lebanon maintains the first place in the world in the rate of increase in food prices. It is expected that the differences will widen during the coming months with countries mired in similar monetary and financial crises, led by Mozambique, Venezuela, Iran and others.

Under this unprecedented ceiling of the price index, the telecommunications sector recorded an increase of 621 percent, compared to its level recorded at the end of the first quarter of last year.

The health item rose by 374 percent. The increases exceeded 350 percent in the items of foodstuffs, beverages, clothing, shoes, home equipment, maintenance, and restaurants.

On the other hand, the Lebanese government took yesterday, in two meetings, headed by Prime Minister Najib Mikati, a number of measures to address the Syrian displacement crisis, especially those who violate Lebanese laws. Among the measures are dropping the “refugee” status for everyone who leaves Lebanon, and taking security measures in the vicinity of the camps that house the displaced.

The Minister of Social Affairs, Hector Hajjar, said that the government will ask the security services to strictly pursue violators, prevent the entry of Syrians through illegal means, and those who do not possess official and legal documents, and request the High Commissioner for Displaced Affairs, within a maximum period of one week, to provide the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities with « Data » for the displaced Syrians.

In light of the high number of Syrian detainees in Lebanese prisons, it was decided to request the Minister of Justice to discuss the possibility of handing them over to the Syrian state immediately, taking into account the relevant laws, and after coordination with the Syrian state, and going to foreign countries to participate in bearing the burdens of the Syrian displacement, in light of the worsening The economic crisis in Lebanon.
