[Console Games] Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Update Adds 2 Games, Including Day One Release

Microsoft releases a new update for its Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service that gives subscribers two new games to try, including a day one release.

 

Microsoft has updated the lineup of games available through the Ultimate tier of its Xbox Game Pass subscription service, giving subscribers access to Need for Speed Unbound and day one game The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales. Xbox Game Pass has multiple versions for potential subscribers to choose from, though they get the most bang for their buck by signing up for the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier.

 

Unfortunately for longtime subscribers, both the vanilla version of Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate are going to get more expensive in the near future. Microsoft recently confirmed a Game Pass price hike that will see vanilla Game Pass jump from $9.99 to $10.99 and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate increase in price from $14.99 to $16.99. The good news is that the Xbox Game Pass price isn't all that significant, though Microsoft will have to keep the new game additions coming if it hopes to retain subscribers as well as bring new ones into the fold.

 

As of June 22, those signed up for the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier of the service have two more games to check out. Need for Speed Unbound has been added to the lineup through EA Play. One of the benefits of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is the fact that it includes the EA Play library of games, which is why Need for Speed Unbound isn't available to those with regular Game Pass. The other game added to Game Pass with the latest update is The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales, and it's available to all Game Pass subscribers.

Need for Speed Unbound is a big budget game from an AAA studio, which makes it a significant addition to the service. However, The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales may just steal the show. Besides the fact that The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales is a day one Xbox Game Pass game, it's also readily available to a larger number of Game Pass subscribers than Need for Speed Unbound.

It's also worth pointing out that while Need for Speed Unbound reviews were mostly positive, there were certainly those who weren't a fan of the latest entry in EA's long-running racing game franchise. The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales doesn't have much in the way of professional reviews just yet, but the ones that have been published have been highly complimentary so far. Time will tell how its review scores stack up against Need for Speed Unbound, but Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers don't have to choose between the two.
