Proto
Are you looking for one of the fastest or highest refresh rates on a gaming monitor? Do you need more than 240Hz? Asus might have a solution for you. Asus released its new ROG Strix XG27AQMR – a 27-inch 1440p gaming monitor with a refresh rate of 300Hz. The XG27AQMR is a new model and succeeds the XG27AQM. Yes, a single “R” is only the difference between the two. It can be very confusing since both monitors are priced similarly (above $600), and their specs are pretty close to each other as well. If you are looking for a 300Hz monitor or want to find out the difference between the XG27AQM and the newer XG27AQMR, please continue reading below. Asus ROG Strix XG27AQMR – “The Perfect Balance” As mentioned, Asus’ ROG Strix XG27AQMR is a 27-inch gaming monitor with a resolution of 2560×1440, a popular gaming resolution today. Unlike most 27″ 1440p monitors, whose refresh rate is only around 144Hz to 240Hz, the XG27AQMR can reach up to 300Hz refresh rate (via DP). It’s also G-Sync compatible and features FreeSync Premium Pro technology. Asus advertises the monitor with a 1ms GTG response time; however, that’s the best-case scenario. And expect an average actual GTG response time of around 4 to 5ms. If you are after a sub-1ms response time, like 0.3ms or 0.03ms, you might want to invest in an OLED gaming monitor since no IPS monitor can achieve a consistent sub-1ms, as far as I know. The ROG Strix XG27AQMR also features DisplayHDR 600, not true HDR, but can achieve 600 nits of peak brightness. The panel used in this monitor is a 10-bit panel and covers around 95-97% of DCI-P3 color space. Asus didn’t particularly highlight its color accuracy or coverage, but based on several reviews of this monitor, its color is good enough for gaming. Aside from the fast 300Hz refresh rate, another key feature of the ROG Strix XG27AQMR is its Extreme Low Motion Blue Sync technology. It eliminates ghosting and tearing, which can be helpful in fast-paced first-person shooter games. When it comes to connectivity options, it has two HDMI 2.0, one DisplayPort 1.4, two USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-A ports, and an earphone jack. There’s not much to say about this monitor since its real highlight is its 300Hz refresh rate and ELMB Sync technology. ROG Strix XG27AQMR vs XG27AQM – What’s The Difference? So, how does the new XG27AQMR compare to its predecessor, the XG27AQM (without the R)? The XG27AQMR and XG27AQM are very similar gaming monitors. They are both 27″ IPS monitors and have a resolution of 2560×1440. When it comes to refresh rate, the XG27AQM can only achieve up to 270Hz of refresh rate, and that’s in OC mode. The XG27AQM is only HDR400 with a peak brightness of 400 nits. But it has an advertised response time of 0.5ms. Although, I’m quite certain that the 0.5ms Asus’ claimed is not the actual and average response time that users will get. Instead, it is more or less the best-case scenario in a controlled state or environment. Another difference is the price, the newer XG27AQMR has a list price of $699, but it currently sells for around $650 USD. Meanwhile, the XG27AQM is selling for about $665, which is quite odd considering that the new and “better” XG27AQMR is slightly cheaper. I guess it depends on the retailer (seller), and the XG27AQM is an outgoing product and will be replaced by the newer XG27AQMR.
