Experts and specialists tried to provide an explanation for the phenomenon of sheep turnover, which has become a mystery after it was repeated in a number of countries, and prompted people to research and diligence in its causes. As some interpreted it as signs of the imminence of natural disasters, while others moved away from that, and it came to linking the phenomenon with the approaching end of the Hour.

The incident dates back to a few days ago, after a video spread of a flock of sheep revolving around itself in Karak Governorate in southern Jordan. The Ministry of Agriculture responded at that time by issuing a statement stating that a technical team had conducted an examination on the sheep after locating the site, and it did not appear that there were any diseases.

The ministry explained this event as "maternal behavior" of sheep looking for their newborns in the barn, while the Jordanian Ifta Department stated that it "will meet to study the phenomenon, and to search for all the prophetic hadiths that refer to the signs of the Hour and its approach," before ruling out the phenomenon's definitive connection with those signs.

No one has thought of going back to those they call in Jordan "the owners of the car" or the people of experience and specialization as some communities call them, and they are the ones who live their day and night among the sheep that have become an integral part of their lives, knowing every detail of their behavior and movements, and the most capable of describing their condition, namely, they. shepherds".

In a report by Anadolu Agency, the reporter conducted a videotaped field tour in the plains of Irbid governorate in the north of the country, and was briefed on the reality of many flocks of sheep there, and listened to the opinions of their shepherds; As they are the closest and most familiar with it.

The opinions of the shepherds differed in the method of description, but they did not differ in principle, as some of them saw that what happened to the Karak sheep is evidence of their disease, while others said that it is a normal behavior in some cases related to their pastures.

round disease
Muhammad Abdullah al-Masri (18 years old), a shepherd studying radiology at the (governmental) University of Science and Technology, said, "We have been raised and lived with these sheep since we were children. My brothers graduated from universities and they work here."

He added that he watched the video (the Karak video) "as others watched (..) the number of these heads that you see is 410, it is normal for some of them to get sick, and this is what I think happened with the Karak sheep."

Al-Masri expected that the sheep would be infected with worm disease, which, according to him, results from the presence of a worm in their brains, and is caused by the saliva of stray dogs.

He explained that the solution to this "is either by treating the infected sheep, which is usually for young ages, or by slaughtering them, which may lead to the death of the infected ones."

For his part, his father Abdullah (50 years) cited bringing a case infected from among the herd with the same disease that his son talked about, as she was involuntarily turning towards her right side.

He said, "There are other reasons for sheep turning. When fodder is provided to them when they are hungry, they turn, or when sick, which is rare. For our part, we have not seen any change in our sheep."

Rotation to get her out of her yard
Khaled Al-Zoubi (46 years old), another shepherd and owner of a flock of 400 sheep, indicated that "any sheep that are taken out of their yard and their fodder will rotate until they are returned to their place."

And he evidenced this by what happened to him, and he said, "The sheep circled around the water tank because they were thirsty and wanted to drink, and we who have experience do not see anything strange in the video of their rotation."

On the other hand, Ahmed al-Jizawi, 50, asked about linking some of what happened to the signs of the Hour, asking those who say that to "bring a hadith saying that the rotation of sheep is evidence of the approaching Day of Resurrection."

He stressed, "I have the flock that you see, which consists of 250 sheep, and I have not seen or noticed any change in their behavior at all."

Known disease
About two weeks ago, activists on social media circulated a video clip recorded in the Mongolia region of northern China, showing scenes of the continuous rotation of a herd of sheep.

The New York Post reported at the time that the sheep's rotation may be due to a bacterial disease called listeriosis, also known as rotation disease.

Listeriosis affects only one side of the animal's brain, causing it to tilt towards the affected side in a way that sometimes leads to paralysis.

In the event of an outbreak of the disease, only a small percentage of sheep are affected by it, and they tend to follow the circling behavior.
